People in Largs are being invited to join with millions of Christians around the world to celebrate the annual International World Day of Prayer at 2pm on Friday 6 March in St Mary’s Star of the Sea Church.

Everyone is welcome to attend the service, which has been written by women of the Bahamas.

Each year women of one country are invited to prepare the service and this year Christian women from The Bahamas have chosen the topic Jesus said to them: “Do you know what I have done to you?”.

An estimated three million Christians of many traditions and all ages will celebrate a common day of prayer on the first Friday in March using the service, which includes some music and prayers from the Bahamas. In addition to the main service in St Mary’s, some residential homes in Largs will also hold the service for their residents on the same day.

The World Day of Prayer is an international, ecumenical prayer movement initiated and carried out by Christians in more than 180 countries and in over 1,000 languages.

Services are held all around the world, beginning at sunrise in Tonga and continuing throughout the day until the sun sets in Alaska. In Scotland, the service will be conducted in churches, schools, community centres, prisons and even in shopping centres.

Largs churches take it in turn to host the main service in the town. Everyone is very welcome to attend and light refreshments will be served.
