A young mum gave birth to a baby boy amid dramatic scenes in Largs on Tuesday.

The mum was being driven to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock, but the emergency unfolded before the car had even left Largs.

The emergency services were called at 8.55am after Kloee Russell waters broke in Lovat Street.

Paramedics immediately arrived on the scene, and police also assisted, as Kloee delivered her new baby to the world in amazing circumstances.

Kloee, 21, told the News: “I woke up at 5.30am with pains, and didn’t know what they were. I had phoned my partner Jonny who is in the army, and he had just left Catterick barracks in North Yorkshire to come up the road.

“My contractions were becoming stronger and more frequent. My gran and grandpa, Irene and Micky Gordon, came to my house in Kelburn Court, and we decided at 8.30 to head to the maternity unit at Crosshouse. Grandpa wanted to go as he didn’t want the baby to be delivered in his car - but that is ended up what happening!

“We went to Gordon’s Dairy to pick up my mum Kirsty, but as we were driving to the traffic lights before Charles Street, I felt really sore and had to push. Mum pulled over the car and phoned 999, and told the paramedics that I was in labour and felt the need to push.

“The paramedics arrived quickly, and that was literally when I pushed and my waters broke. The paramedics then said that they were going to be delivering the baby in the car there and then, and out popped his head and next his body. It was amazing! Mum phoned my partner Johnny to let him know the good news - and he was only 42 miles away from Largs!” As we went to press, Johnny and Kloee’s baby did not yet have a name, but weighed in at 5lb 12oz.
