Largs Community Council organised its first beach clean event of the season on Sunday - and also headed up the Viewpoint for a spring clean.

Patricia Perman, chair of the environment sub group, and organiser, stated that she would like to thank those members of the public who took time to help, local NAC staff and the Largs and Millport News.

She said: “There will be further beach clean ups organised this spring and summer and we would hope to link with other groups anxious to make our town cleaner and better. The Community Council also cleaned the Haylie Brae car park which we hope the public appreciate.

“It was noticeable that the amount of plastic bags had reduced but the number of disposable plastic spoons, plastic takeaway trays, sweet and crisp wrappers, plastic bottles and metal cans are too often dumped by some visitors and Largs people. What a shame to despoil such a beautiful area.” At the Haylie Visitor Viewpoint, apart from the usual waste, there was a car battery, trade refuse and dumped bedding plants, copper wiring and a used nappy.
