Coastguards were quick off their mark after a report of a man overboard in the water around Largs Yacht Haven last week.

Although this turned out to be a false alarm, the coastguard emphasised the need to make emergency calls if people believe someone is in distress.

The incident happened at 4pm last Wednesday, when the Largs Coastguard rescue team were called out by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre to investigate reports of a man overboard in the vicinity of Largs Yacht Haven.

A spokesman for the coastguard said: “The team proceeded to Largs Yacht Haven and carried out a search along the pontoons in the approximate position the signal had come from.” After searching for some time, nothing was found and it was recorded as a false alarm with good intent.

The spokesman added: “Remember, in an emergency on or near the coast, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.”
