Hopscotch Theatre Company will be visiting Brisbane and Cumbrae primary schools with their new eco show - ‘What a Load of Rubbish’.

Hopscoth general manager, and Millport resident Suki McGregor, said: “Hopscotch has been touring to Scottish primary schools for 26 years we are delighted to be granted SSE community funding from Hunterston to enable us to visit a small school such as Cumbrae Primary who, with additional ferry costs, a visit by a theatre company like Hopscotch would not be viable.” This theatre in education show will help pupils to ‘clean up’ on their knowledge about recycling, landfill waste and pollution in this popular show about environmental awareness.

The show description is as follows: “Careless young litter lout, Mike goes on an unexpected adventure to save the planet when he discovers a massive landfill overflowing into his Granny Janet’s back garden. The waste tip threatens to engulf Granny’s cottage and Mike is brought face to face with the reality of civilisation’s throw-away culture. Mike decides he has to save the countryside, the world and, more importantly, Granny’s cottage from catastrophe.” Mrs Julie Dorrian, Head teacher at Brisbane Primary, Largs, said: “We are really excited to have Hopscotch visit the school with this production as we are heavily involved in the Eco Schools initiative; eco awareness is just part of everyday life at Brisbane. We are continually undertaking projects within and around our school as well as being aware of global issues.

“We are currently heading towards our fourth green flag and each year, every class takes responsibility for a class eco project to improve the environment and sustain good practice.

“During each summer term, in May, we hold an “Eco and Health Focus Week” full of activities, visitors and lessons with a focus on the environment, health and well-being.” Fiona Malloy, head teacher at Cumbrae Primary added: “We are delighted at being part of the funding award and very much looking forward to seeing the show” The shows are coming on Thursday 19 June, first at Brisbane at 9.45am, and later at Cumbrae Primary at 1.30pm.
