In this week's Largs News. a letter writer praised an 85 year old volunteer from Johnstone who comes down to Largs most days to help clear the beach of seaweed.
She writes: "I am just back from a walk along the beach as I am most mornings, and at Broomfields, there is a chap called John aged 85 who comes down from Johnstone every day.
He clears the seaweed and piles it up against the wall in the hope that eventually the local council will pick it up - and what a difference it has made.
He said he used to come down to Largs and thought - what an eyesore, and now that he is retired, it gives him something to do.
John apparently clears the foreshores at Portpatrick, Fairlie and up to Largs - he said it keeps him busy.
How amazing at the age of 85 - if you are looing for him, he is on the beach most days, and he brings his wee pack lunch every day - it is just a shame that the beach isn’t tided more."
