A 24-hour ferry strike will go ahead on Wednesday and Thursday after talks between the RMT union and Caledonian MacBrayne collapsed.

The action will see workers refuse to work overtime due to issues relating to the tendering of ferry services on their job security, conditions and pensions.

The RMT union raised concerns that the tender will affect employees' terms and conditions and failed to get a commitment from the Scottish Government on ensuring there would be no compulsory redundancies., The RMT trades union has announced its intention to take industrial action on June 24, 25 and 26.

CalMac have said that the action is likely to cause severe disruption. .

Their website states: "Passengers are advised to think about whether they need to travel on these days. Anyone buying tickets to travel during the period of this industrial action should be aware of the risk of potential disruption. "

"We are fully aware of the importance of the lifeline service we deliver and the reliance which both the communities we serve and tourist visitors place on this service. "All our customers can be assured that if industrial action does occur we will do everything in our power to minimise the impact it might have."
