Unexpected roadworks arrived in Largs town centre on Tuesday caught businesses and members of the public by surprise, causing tailbacks.
A BT spokesman confirmed: “The works are emergency repairs to repair damaged manhole covers and we expect the work to be completed by Friday this week.” ‘News’ correspondent Alison Masterson contacted us and said: “Traffic lights are holding traffic up on Main Street Largs. They are finally sorting that bad pothole by the small roundabout.
“Some drivers have been taking different routes because of the tailback, and didn’t bother to indicate that they were turning into Bath Street which is a bad place to cross at the best of times.” And Largs man Ian Murdoch told the ‘News’ he was disappointed that yet again roadworks had appeared in the town with no forewarning for the public, or to allow businesses to prepare.
He said: “It is very frustrating that this has happened again, and everybody has been caught off guard by it.”
