While Largs is currently campaigning to try and get an improved deal in relation to the forestry development, back in 1965, the headline was 'Give Us More Trees!"

However, all is not quite as it seems.

The 'News' reported: "More trees for Largs streets was the plea of Treasurer Dan Doris at the Town Council. He said he was getting concerned about the way the town was losing trees."

He was not referring to the trees which the council agreed should be removed at the rear of Barrfields Pavilion as if these trees were unhealthy, they must come down, the 'News' editorial pointed out.

After being given the chop at Barrfields, Dan, who was a well known local hairdresser, wanted a clause put into contracts of building developers saying that they must plant trees in new avenues.

He said: "I can see Largs looking a very bare looking place. I would like to see more burgh planting trees."

And he added that there was a research department which could advise on suitable trees for growth in coastal areas. "Let us plan for more trees in Largs!" he urged, to soften the aesthetic appearance of concreted streets and housing.

The Provost said: "I think the Treasurer has made his point."
