A special charity fun run on Saturday has been cancelled due to the poor weather.

Organisers of the Haylie House Fun Run were forced to pull the plug after heavy rain throughout the morning.

It was due to start at 10am and would have been the third year of the family fundraiser, which attracts runners, walkers, cyclists, roller-skaters, dog walkers and more!

All proceeds were due to go to Haylie House (towards improving the gardens for the residents).

Gary Ennis, who helped organise the event, said: "We'd like to thank everyone for their support and understanding at the decision to cancel the Family Fun Run.

"The decision was not an easy one, and was made on the basis of safety for everyone involved - especially some of our younger (and indeed older!) entrants. Both the local police and our first aiders supported the decision, and from the comments on Facebook - most of you did too.

We do intend to reschedule the event, but it will not be in the immediate future. Many of you suggested we go again tomorrow or next week, which we'd love to do, but I'm afraid this is impossible due to the required 'admin' to run an official public event like this (council approval, police approval, insurance, first aid cover, etc etc).

Once we make a decision on a new date, we'll try and let everyone know, and hopefully we'll get the same support we had for today.

For those of you who had sponsored us (or any of the participants) in good faith, we (or they) will of course refund any monies paid if requested, otherwise we'd ask you to hold onto the money (or continue to fundraise!) and donate this in the future when we re-run the event.

Thanks again for all your kind comments and for helping share our frustrating news this morning. We were all incredibly disappointed, but it was certainly the right decision."
