A Millport man who dropped an incredible nine stones to take part in the Michael's Movers charity run around the island earlier this year has achieved another milestone.

A few weeks ago, Jensen Newton took part in the Great Scottish Run in Glasgow to raise funds for The Butterfly Trust.

It was a special thank you to island mum Eryn Ironmonger, who helped inspire Jensen to turn his life around and fight the flab, so he helped raise funds for Eryn's ten year old daughter Reegan.

The Butterfly Trust is a non profit community group which was formed by parents of children who attend the James MacFarlane and Haysholm Special Needs School, where Reegan is a pupil, and Jensen decided upon doing the charity run for the trust.

The incredible turnaround for Jensen started last year as he dropped junk food and bread from his diet, and started getting more active, joining the gym at Cumbrae Watersports Centre, and soon the father of two was starting to see progress. Jensen's wife is Emma Newton who is an English teacher at Largs Academy, and their children are Tyler and Madison.

Jensen said: "I can't thank Eryn enough for helping me to turn my life around; I felt that I owed her so much, she helped me take the first steps towards losing all that weight, so as a small token of my appreciation, I decided to do the Great Scottish Run, and fundraise for her daughter Reegan. It was Eryn's encouragement that got me into exercise, and power walking, running and it really made the difference for me. It has transformed my life."

Speaking about the Great Scottish Run itself, Jensen admitted: "Eryn told me about the great work that the Butterfly Club does, and I decided there and then to register for The Great Scottish Run half-marathon.

"It was a harder run than I anticipated but the weather was perfect on the day, and it was great to get to the finishing line, and mark another achievement. My sister Lynne also joined me, and we did it in two hours and 18 minutes, and Eryn and her family were waiting at the finishing line to congratulate us. It was great."

"The whole experience was amazing. At the start at George Square, we were in amongst 10,000 people or more, and the atmosphere and crowds cheered us on, I must have hi-fived hundreds of people!"

"Running over the Kingston Bridge was quite spectacular - I have driven over it so many times, so that is another one to tick off the bucket list!"

Eryn Ironmonger helped persuade Jensen to join the island slimming club, and was also a guiding light in Jensen's road to recovery.

Jensen said: "Eryn cajoled me into joining the slimming club, and that was really the start of it and got me going. I started losing weight, and getting good results and it was a motivating factor.

"I got a lot of advice from my sister Lynn too, so it was great that she took part as well."
