The Isle of Cumbrae is hosting a Boys Brigade camp on 26th-29th May to provide young members from other BBs to have the experience of camping under canvas.

There will be plenty of out of doors activities on the island setting as the island turns back the clock to host the camp which used to be a highly popular event down the decades.

The camp is for companies who do not have the staff or equipment to lead such a weekend.

The camp site for the weekend will be within the Garrison Grounds which is in the centre of Millport. Young leaders will take charge and activities will begin.

Jackie Wilson BB Development Officer said: "As well as being the captain of the 1st Millport Company I am also a development worker for Boys’ Brigade Scotland and I realise there are a lot of companies where young people have never had the opportunity to camp or really experience what it’s like to spend time in the out of doors. The initial target set was to attract 120 young people plus staff which would take us to approximately 150 on site within the Garrison Grounds. This target has been reached and we have a waiting list with campers coming from companies across Scotland. The criteria was that the young people could only sign up if they had never been to camp before.

"There used to be a lot of Boys’ Brigade camps on Cumbrae over the years, some of which we hosted when we had the farm and I speak to many “old boys’ with fond memories of coming to Millport, so we are looking forward it to returning in May."
