The Millport Classic Car event was held on Saturday May 13 in the Garrison.

After lovely weather the previous day, dark clouds gathered and the day began very wet. However, this did not dampen the spirits of the organisers, the participants and the spectators. Not as many classic cars  took part as it anticipated, obviously due to the weather, but it was still 60-70 fabulous vehicles in the show. There were classic minis, M.Gs, Triumphs, Vauxhalls, as well as a Ferrari, Rolls Royce of many more. Two classic fire engines also made the journey across.

The spectators were able to vote for the 'best in show'. The most votes, overwhelmingly,, went to The Jensen 54IR car, owned by Tom McWhirter, all the way from Elgin! 2nd was a Morris Minor Traveller owned by Ron Stewart, and 3rd was a 1937 Austin 14 Goodwood, owned by Peter Wylie.

The winner received a rosette, a bottle of champagne, and the first prize of a dinner, and bed and breakfast at the Royal George Hotel, donated by owner Margaret Kennedy. The prizewinner Tom McWhirter was presented with the award by the new Cumbrae Queen for 2017, Susan Johnstone, in her first official engagement.

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the event despite the inclement weather, and organisers Jimmy and Eleanor Newton would like to thank all the car owners who took part and The Windfarm Project for a grant, Stuart and Matthew Cape of Escape Promotions, The Leckie Family, Millport Festival Committee, The Royal George Hotel, Garrison House Cafe, and Emma Newton. Also a big thank you to everyone who turned out at the event despite the weather. A disco was held that evening in the Royal George Hotel.
