In relation to last week's story 'Vikings v Cowboys', the first two Country and Western festivals were held on the weekend at end of July/beginning of August and we got bad feedback from Largs that it made the prom/pier too busy.

A ferry strike caused chaos the third year it was held on that weekend and the festival committee made the decision to move it to a quieter weekend - the first weekend of September.

A year after staging our event in September, the Viking festival committee subsequently moved their festival date to coincide with our festival despite us voicing concerns to them.

The Viking festival runs for 10 days (over two weekends) and is largely dependent on the fairground schedule. Our event is always the first weekend in September, but the Viking festival parade sometimes doesn't fall on the same weekend.

The Viking festival is mainly a community event, whilst the country music festival attracts thousands of out-of-town visitors.

The Millport Country music festival is firmly established on the Country Music calendar.
