A total of 18 poets met for a workshop opened with the reading of the work by members and their favoured poets.

The exciting Ayrshire contemporary poet, Cara McKee was the guest speaker for the session. She challenged the group to produce a poem inspired by work published from around the world.

The topic was, 'Poetry as conversation' and Cara explained how subjective interpretations can be. The poets had a go with their own versions based on interpretations of a variety of these poems. A chocolate cake fest followed.

The next meeting of the Cumbrae Contemporary Poetry Society will be on the 8th of July when Bill Torrie Douglas will be giving a talk and workshop on 'Scottish Poetry.'

All those with an interest in the rich array of Scottish work are invited to attend.

The motto for the club is ‘Make waves, words grow’.

Kindly the art community centre, run by Mazda Munn and Gill Miller under the auspices of the Cathedral of the Isles, has allowed their venue to be used as the gathering post for the society.
