Last Sunday was the occasion of a spectacular concert in the Cathedral of The Isles. It was the opening event of this year's Music for a Summer Afternoon and the 40th anniversary concert of the Telemann Ensemble. Baroque music by Vivaldi, Telemann, Fasch and Pergolesi was featured. Perhaps the "icing on the gingerbread" was a brilliant performance of J S Bach's Cantata No. 51 with virtuosic singing by Margaret Ravalde, though her brilliance was matched other members of the Ensemble, notably trumpeter Daniel de Gruchy-Lambert. Next Sunday , July 2nd a complete change of mood - the Alastair Savage Trio will present fine performances of music in the Scots folk music tradition. Cathedral, Sunday at 3, all welcome.
