Leavers Assembly

Cumbrae Primary held a very poignant and entertaining 'leavers assembly' in the school on Tuesday June 27. It was a lovely afternoon of music and song from the school orchestra and the choir to celebrate P7s graduation. It began by everyone being welcomed by the music teacher of 13 years at the school, David Wilde, who welcomed the audience of parents, family, grandparents and friends of the P7 pupils. The band is made up of P5/6 and P7 pupils, and David said they were excellent and they always had a lot of fun, and he was delighted to have the occasion to showcase their talents. The band played three tunes. Kayla Dobbin of P7 then introduced the recorder group who were excellent. John Thomson of P7 invited the choir to sing next and their songs were lovely with duets from four of the pupils.

P7 then performed a hilarious play 'Remember, remember, remember'.

With great costumes they acted out hem being at a P7 reunion 60 years later!

They also gave some accounts of their favourite memories from Cumbrae Primary, and everyone watched slides of pictures of them at nursery or P1. They also talked about their week long trip to Arran outdoor centre and showed slides of their activities there. This also with songs from all of them made it a marvellous musical. After a quick change back to uniform all the 'leavers' sang two moving songs and all their friendships were apparent. Head teacher Miss Sharmon then thanked the pupils, and said that they had been a marvellous P7 and wished them all the very best of luck in their futures.

It was a very moving event. Mrs Shona Morris, the infant's teacher ,was presented with a banquet of flowers as she is leaving too, and sang the 'leaver's song' with the children. On Wednesday night, P7 pupils attended a leavers party in the Newton Lounge with everyone dressed for the occasion. The boys all wore smart suits and the girls in their lovely dresses. They had a ball.

Everyone on the island wishes the children every success and good wishes as they start another journey in their lives, and graduate up to the big school - Largs Academy.
