There are two raft races to look forward to over the coming weekends as the traditional seafaring fun and games take place.

Firstly, the annual Millport Raft Race fundraiser takes place on the seafront at 3.15pm and is a traditional fundraiser for the Millport Toddlers group. The route is from Kames Bay to Millport Harbour.

And for the first time in many a year, the Fairlie Raft Race returns, coming to the beach at Allanton Park Terrace, on Saturday August 19 during the Gala Day celebrations which have moved to the coastline.

This Sunday, if you want to enter the Fairlie Raft Race this year but just don't have time to design and build a raft then head to the beach at midday, and the Fairlie Coastal Trust guys will be there to help.

On the 19th, Cumbrae Voyages will be at the Gala to whisk you around the bay in one of their purpose built RIBs. Places are limited so message the Fairlie Gala facebook page now to pre book your trip.

Also on the day, there will be Firth of Clyde Coastal Rowing group rib trips, a custard pie fight, facepainting, birds of prey, bottle stall, barbecue, licensed bar with real ales, and live music from ‘Crisis’.
