Last weekend was the high point of the summer activities in the Cathedral of The Isles. On Friday evening there was an electrifying recital by the young Lithuanian pianist Guoda Indriunaite.
After a Suite by Greig and a Sonata by Mozart, she had the audience on the edge of their seats by her powerful playing of Rachmaninov. The rest of the weekend was dominated by the performance of one of the great organ virtuosi of our time. - Gordon Stewart.
Alistair Chisholm said: "By the end of his Sunday afternoon recital we had heard Bach fugues and Handel concerti interspersed with with witty stories about Gordon's life as an international concert organist. Truly he had the audience in the palm of his hand."
This week on Thursday evening there is a concert of 2 piano music at the Cathedral, given by Alastair Chisholm and Jonathan Cohen. The music will be changeable, sometimes sad , sometimes happy, but it's exclusively for a Millport audience because it will start at 7.30 and finish after the last ferry has gone. Hope they enjoy the tunes! On Sunday however, they hope for their mainland friends to come over at 3 in the afternoon for a concert of Haydn and Brahms to be given by the young Kentigern String Quartet. Another change, and another afternoon to cherish in the lovely Cathedral.
