In May this year Cumbrae Community Council were present at a meeting with various NAC departments, including Streetscene. The Community Council reported that the picnic tables and many benches were in a sad state of repair around the Island and suggested at this point that the picnic benches should be the first priority with the benches to follow.

CCC sent photographs of all the broken and damaged tables and benches and after several follow up messages a Contractor was commissioned to undertake this work which commenced at the start of July. The picnic benches are now completed and CCC will continue to ensure that the benches are also repaired as necessary. Streetscene have been alerted to the fact that if any of the old Victorian benches are removed the Island would like to retain the ironwork for possible future use.

The Community Council are pleased to announce that a feasibility study is to be undertaken for a cycle path between the Ferry Terminal and Millport which will be funded by Sustrans Scotland. CCC are the first point of contact and will be asking local groups for their input into the development for the brief of this study. Clearer signage on the existing cycle path is also going to be arranged.

More good news to report is that NAC have confirmed they have been successful in their funding bid to the War Memorials Trust for much needed repairs and maintenance for the Millport War Memorial.

Following concerns reported by residents surrounding debris left by NAC contracted builders in the Hastie Avenue/Balloch Crescent area, CCC are happy to confirm that this has now been removed by NAC.

Under the new Community Empowerment Act (Scotland) which was introduced in April 2017, CCC have made an expression of interest in the Harbour, Pier and Town Hall. This will enable us to be kept informed of any plans for these areas and buildings in order that we may keep the community informed.
