The new look Country Music festival in Millport, which was a big success on the island this year, is moving back a week next year.

This means that it will avoid a clash with the opening day of the Viking Festival, and the International Air Show in Prestwick.

Last year's event includes some big names including The Shires, with Sunday's event being changed at short notice to a benefit event for the victims of Hurricane Harvey after headline act Mark Chesnutt was forced to cancel after being caught up in the hurricane.

In a posting on the Country and Music festival facebook page, it stated: "Millport Country Music Festival 2018 will be back on 7th, 8th and 9th of September next year.

"We will have further updates in the coming months with details on ticket release dates, artist lineup and more, but make sure and... get the date in your diary."

A spokesman for the Country Music Festival confirmed that the dates had been changed to avoid a clash with other major events in Ayrshire.

He said: "Due to the number of events that are happening locally, in particular the Scottish International Airshow and Viking Festival we felt that by moving it to the following weekend the festival will not only be accessible to more people, however ease the stress on resources of some of the supporting services and organisations."

"The entire Millport team would like to say a huge thank you to all the artists, management, volunteers and most importantly all those that came to the festival.

"The feedback we have received on the festival this year has been amazing and thank you all for taking the time to speak to us, message us and post.

"We are delighted that we raised £1,901 for local youth organisations on the island through the auction of one of our Cumbrae Guitars and a signed guitar from our friends at Treetown Festival."

A number of meetings took place in the months leading up to the event to help with the smooth organisation of the festival. Both Millport and Largs events were praised by the police for its organisation, as was the Largs Viking Festival.
