Fire crews from Largs and Millport attended a blaze in Millport on Thursday morning.
A fire broke out in a ground floor flat in Cardiff Street. Eye-witnesses told the 'News' that a lot of smoke was seen coming from the property.
At 08:59 Largs ferry office received a phone call from the Operations Centre to relay that they had been informed there was a fire in Millport town and that two fire engines would be arriving to board the Largs-Cumbrae ferry.
Arrangements made for the Loch Shira to depart as soon as the appliances were on board.
Loch Shira departed early at 0907 from Largs (scheduled time 0915) with only one fire engine on board (on the direction of the fire crew who said they could not wait for the other fire engine as the fire was escalating).
MV Loch Linnhe which was berthed at the south side of Largs pier was brought into service to ship the second fire engine over to Cumbrae.
