Pupils on Cumbrae will be provided with school transport to the new Largs Campus when it opens this Spring.
The move was rubberstamped at North Ayrshire Council's Cabinet meeting within the last hour.
Currently, a bus takes pupils from Millport to the Cumbrae ferry slip where they catch the boat to the Largs and walk to Largs Academy.
However, Cabinet members have agreed that pupils will be bussed on the final leg of the journey from the ferry terminal to the new campus.
The move comes after Cumbrae residents petitioned the council after an island outcry at plans to drop the service.
