MILLPORT Town Hall is to go up for sale after 140 years as a key community asset.
The community building, which was built in 1877, has been out of action since 2016 due to its deteriorating condition.
But in its heyday it hosted many successful events, including Scottish Country Dancing championships, the Cumbrae Plant Show and many live music events.
The building also used to host the island library but that moved to The Garrison after it re-opened in 2008.
Residents had contacted the 'News' to report an alarm going off inside the premises over recent weeks.
Local authority bosses say the time is right to dispose of the facility.
