As Millport prepares for a big Easter parade event to Save Millport Pier, this photo shows how busy the harbour used to be.

Mari Wallace of the Save Millport Pier campaign said: "This is what we are missing out on not having a pier. This photo was taken of The Waverley at Millport Pier Easter 2004."

The Save Millport Pier campaign is planning an Easter parade event for the Easter Weekend to raise the profile of their plight.

On the campaign's facebook page, it urges islanders to get involved and support the parade which leaves Marine Parade at 2pm on Saturday March 31.

Co-ordinator Mari Wallace said: "Calling all residents of Millport, and all those people who are planning on visiting our beautiful island on Saturday 31 March please join our Easter Parade to support our 'Mind the Gap' campaign.

"The parade will be led by Millport Pipe Band, and members of the Isle of Cumbrae Pipe Band, Kilbarchan Pipe Band and Barrhead Pipe Band.

Whether it is walking, pushing prams, cycling or driving, the Save Millport Pier campaign wants you to get involved. You can be dressed with an Easter theme as a bunny or chicken if you want, and it is hoped to be a family fun atmosphere.

And there will also be prizes for the following for the best decorated pram, bike, car, lorry, tractor, adult and child.

There will also be a prize for the best 'Mind the Gap' banner. The parade will finish at Millport Pier where the band Skelmorlie Shanks will provide entertainment, courtesy of the Royal George Hotel.

The campaign is also hosting a children's sandcastle competition on Saturday 31 March at Newton Beach at 11am.
