A good turnout of 100 people to protest against the one-way system at the Garrison took place on May Day Monday.

The protesters walked through the Garrison driveway, now a one way street, to the car park and everyone signed a petition which is currently available at various shops and venues throughout the town Island correspondent Mary Currie said: "It was a good turnout. The protest against a one way system has built up a lot of support recently." Organiser Moira Hodge said: "We have been delighted by the support we have received from all sections of the community from young people right through to elderly, businesspeople, locals and visitors. One of Cumbrae pupils Maisie Boyle produced a nice poster about the campaign, and that was a symbol of what we are all about, and is on display throughout the town. We want to restrict the cars to the two existing car parks - and to keep the rest of the Garrison a car free zone."
