An island activist has said that the untidy appearance of Kames Bay in Millport needs to be tackled despite it being a site of scientific interest.

In a letter to the Largs & Millport Weekly News June Allison said that Professor Geoff Moore of the Marine Station had given "a firm rap over the knuckles to those of us here in Millport who would like to see Kames Bay tidied up."

She added: "Visitors - on whom Millport relies - want a decent beach to visit when they come here and Kames Bay used to be a lovely beach, now it is just an unsightly mess. "
