Cunninghame North MSP Kenneth Gibson has revealed that less litter has been found on the beaches of Millport during recent beach cleans over the years.
However, the SNP politician, who organises the community clean-up each year, revealed that there had been an increase in bottles thrown on the roads from the increase in cyclists.
Mr Gibson, who has never cycled a bike before, made the revelation during a recent Fairlie Community Council meeting, when discussing litter problems in the district. He pointed out that there were less shopping trolleys in the district now since the introduction of £1 charges by supermarkets.
Cumbrae promotes itself as Scotland’s cycle friendly island, with many sponsored cycling events including the Largs Thistle football club fundraiser on Sunday September 29.
