A loud noise emanating from Hunterston could be heard as far away as Millport, according to users on local digital sites last month Joanne Clezy wrote: “There is lots of steam or smoke coming from Hunterston, and noise, like pressure escaping. It is very loud in Millport.” A spokeswoman for EDF Energy explained: ““Hunterston B reactor 7 came offline at 11:16 on Wednesday 30 January. When a reactor shuts down, the steam that normally is directed through the turbine is discharged through vents. The loud noise associated with this is completely normal.“
