Local MP Katy Clark has welcomed the announcement that the Queen’s Baton Relay which will pass through most towns in her constituency as well as Millport whose inclusion she lobbied strongly for.

The MP is pleased that Millport has been included given the islands connection with the baton. The wood from the baton’s hand was made from Elm Wood sourced from Garrison House.

After the baton passes through the North Coast (Skelmorlie, Largs and Millport) it will move onto Kilbirnie, Dalry, Kilwinning and then the three towns.

Speaking after the announcement Ms Clark said, “I am pleased that the baton will pass through most towns within my constituency and even those that have missed out will have an event close by which they can go along to and enjoy.” “It is particularly pleasing to see that Millport has been included given its connection to the baton. I urged the games organisers to include the island in the route and also lobbied the council to support the call and I am just pleased that the island will have its own celebration to welcome the baton to the island where its handle originates.” “The baton will come to North Ayrshire on Tuesday 15th July and I have no doubt that people throughout the area will already be looking forward to it after the success of the Olympic torch event.”
