A full day of celebration around the clock is planned at the Garrison for the homecoming of the Queen’s Baton to the Isle of Cumbrae on Tuesday July 15.

When the baton arrives at approximately 10.34am on Leck (Crocodile Rock) jetty, the baton will be piped ashore by Millport Pipe Band, Fairlie Coastal Rowing Club will accompany the baton on its arrival with eight skiffs and upturned oars.

The Millport Majorettes will also be performing on the grass area at the top of Leck Jetty.

The Royal British Legion band will be performing at the War Memorial as the baton is passed along to the pier, where there will be a farewell from the Cumbrae Queen Marta Stevenson On the return leg back to Largs, the baton carrying rib will be accompanied by a flotilla from Largs Marina, Largs Sailing Club, Cumbrae Yacht Club, Largs Lifeboat, all the children on sailing courses and other water users.

A world record attempt to take part in the largest Orcadian Barn Dance takes place at the Garrison grounds at 1pm.

A Luminaire Dance Troupe will be performing from 10.30am to 4pm, and there will be Nigerian artefacts, arts and craft, drums and workshop with Chief Amu Logotse from 11am to 4pm.

There will be a barbecue at the right hand side of The Garrison, arranged by Cumbrae Primary School’s award winning chef Pamela Jamieson.

Cumbrae Primary have an art exhibition from 1-4pm.

For children there will be puppet shows at 11.30am and 1.30pm, as well as kids arts and crafts. There will be a sandcastle competition from 10am to 12 noon at Newton Beach, and potted sports from 12 noon to 2pm.

There will also be a range of sports (age 12+) from 1.30pm-3pm at the astroturf pitch, and beach volleyball from 3.30pm to 4.30pm on Newton Beach..

A family ceilidh is taking place at Millport Town Hall from 6.30pm to 8.30pm and there is a licenced marquee party from 9pm to 12.30pm at the marquee beside The Garrison.
