A couple from Millport celebrated their diamond anniversary with a special bash at the island’s bowling club.

John and Elsie Naismith, both aged 82, tied the knot in Baillieston Parish Church on August 6th 1954.

Both retired to Millport at around 1987 after Elsie worked as a pharmaceutical assistant and John was a postal worker.

Their diamond wedding was celebrated among family and many friends with a luncheon at Millport Bowling Club. Greetings and good wishes were sent to the couple by Her Majesty The Queen.

The couple live in Howard Street, and have two grandchildren Kimberley, who lives in Milton Keynes, is a PA for Netrail and James is involved in IT.

Both are long term members of Cumbrae Parish Church and Elsie is a member of the Guild, Rural and the Millport Elderly Forum.

Sadly, their son Andrew passed away recently at the age of 57, and latterly worked for Scandinavian Air Services.

The couple’s secret to a long marriage is to take one day at a time. Their love of Millport came from when they used to visit regularly with friends from Baillieston and decided to move to the island, and have loved life on Millport ever since.
