The Boys’ Brigade have appointed a Millport resident as their new development worker to help establish new groups in the South of Scotland.

Jackie Wilson, a long-term supporter of the BB, started her role this month, with the aim of creating new groups and attracting new members and volunteers to the organisation.

Jackie, 55, pictured right, is captain of the 1st Millport Company, The Boys’ Brigade.

She said: “I am excited about my new role as development worker and supporting our volunteers, local groups, as well as meeting new friends, colleagues and members.

“I have been volunteering with The Boys’ Brigade for 37 years, holding various roles, including training convener for North Ayrshire battalion. I will bring that experience and those skills to this role as I seek to grow the organisation in the South of Scotland.

“My adventure starts here!” Bill Stevenson, director of The Boys’ Brigade in Scotland, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Jackie to our team, supporting the growth of the organisation in the South of Scotland.

“Having volunteered with the organisation for a number of years, Jackie brings experience, knowledge and skills, making her an excellent addition to the team.

“The organisation is fully committed to growing its membership and the development team is instrumental in doing that. Our aim is to add to our 20,000 strong membership to provide more young people with the best opportunities for their future.” The post is funded by the UK Government’s Uniformed Youth Social Action Fund through Youth United.

Bill added: “This investment from the Uniformed Youth Social Action Fund is most welcome and with Jackie’s experience we will continue to reach out to and support more young people, particularly in hard to reach communities. New members can access a range of opportunities to develop relevant life skills and take part in fun and challenging activities.”
