There are concerns re the hideous brown tract of land being dug out for a cycle path right across the Park at the seafront.

Can I ask 1 - why was this deemed necessary and by whom? and, 2 - if we had to have a cycle path, why could it not have consisted of a thin strip of track running around the perimeter of the park?

Cycle paths, even in cities, are nothing like the width of this wanton destruction of our seafront so, as a tax paying resident, can I ask who sanctioned this and why do we need it?

It seems to me that families wishing to picnic, play or sunbathe as per normal on the park will not be at all happy to find a road running through the space they usually use. All it will achieve is to increase the risk of speeding cycles for those visitors who wish to use the park, whilst not discouraging the use of the Prom (or the pavement) for cycling.

I always thought we tried to encourage visitors, not drive them away by destroying one of the best views and facilities in the town.

This plan is stupid, ill-thought out and should be abandoned and a small path constructed around the perimeter of the park - not straight though it. June Allison The Millport cycle path is so unnecessary. Kames Bay now lost its beautiful clean beach, toilets, and now a grassy area where kids play all summer - mine are two of them. We never have a chance of having the putting green being reinstated now. This doesn’t regenerate - it denigrates - and I totally concur that this is not the area of the island where a cycle path is needed. All on the say so of those who shout the loudest for the sake of less than eight weeks when there are lots of cyclists about. This certainly won’t increase tourism or safety. I can’t actually get to the prom or beach without crossing the track! And if you have your car? You’ll have to park on the other side of the road and cross it too!

Emma Newton A stupid pointless destruction of our seafront is taking place before our eyes. It is hideous, pointless and will not deter cyclists from cycling on the prom. All it will achieve is driving families who played on the grass elsewhere, sunbathers can no longer use it and if you want a picnic - you’ll be in danger of your life. Don’t walk your dog - you’ll both be mown down.

Re-turf it before any more damage is done. A protest should be immediately begun and protesters making their anger at this destruction loud and clear.

Angry local It’s illegal to cycle on the pavement in Scotland. The police here need to apply the law. In over 20 years of living here, I have NEVER SEEN the police act. I doubt a cycle path is going to stop some of the boy and girl racers speeding up and down the pavement. Making a mess of the front is not an answer. Cyclists should be road users. Only young children should be cycling on pavements and not big kids. As a kid, I cycled on the road and it taught me good road sense.

Fed up local The Millport cycle path is going to ruin what exactly? Take a look around you, there’s two massive nuclear power stations winking at you, in the middle of your heritage.

Allan Scott I never see the point of ‘heritage’ if things need changing then change them.....agree with you Allan Scott Largs, Fairlie, Milport.....great view of a nuclear power station.
