There has been severe ferry disruption between Largs and Cumbrae over the Easter weekend.

A fault to the MV Loch Shira resulted in the smaller Loch Riddon having to take the bulk of the traffic across on Easter Sunday, until another ferry arrived in the early evening to lighten the load.

And throughout the morning of Easter Monday, heavy fog disrupted services, while the MV Loch Shira is still out of action.

A message on the Cal Mac website stated: "There will be an attempt sailing from Largs at 12:45 however fog may still be an issue and there could be further delays, disruption or cancellations at short notice.

"There is a smaller ferry in operation on this route with reduced vehicle capacity and lengthy delays are expected.

"We apologise for the disruption this causes for our customers and thank you for your patience."

At 1pm. there were a total of 89 cars queued up waiting to leave the Isle of Cumbrae.

Councillor Alan Hill, who works on the island, tweeted on Sunday: "This is getting beyond a joke Cal Mac."
