The family of a Largs man who was found drowned near Cumbrae Slip on Saturday afternoon have paid tribute to the former IBM employee. Ian McLeod’s body was found a short distance away from the ferry terminal at 2pm.

The Coastguard had reported that a passenger on the ferry had seen the body in the water, and raised the alarm.

There were ferry delays throughout the afternoon, and forensics were sent across from the mainland on one of the ferries which did go across.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said Mr McLeod, 61, had been reported missing by his family earlier that day, and that there were no suspicious circumstances.

Ian grew up and lived most of his life in Largs. A former IBM employee, Ian will be known to many as a regular dog walker, especially on the south promenade and out to the Pencil, where he walked every morning.

His family have thanked everyone for their messages of support at this difficult time. Funeral arrangements will be notified in due course
