Staff in Cumbrae Pharmacy noticed a little baby duck, all on its own, walking along the seafront and crossing the road.
Pharmacist Karen Kennedy and staff member Eileen McAulay followed the little duck along to the crazy golf and finally caught up with it at the beach, saving it from a seagull.
Eileen took the duck home and another staff member, Lauren Black, phoned her mother who advised them to phone Hesselhead wildlife rescue team.
Eileen took it over on the ferry and was met by a volunteer from Hesselhead who took the duck into their protection.
Around 40 ducklings have been rescued this year, but, if not for Eileen and Karen’s attempts, the duckling would probably not have survived.
Eileen said: “The people at Hesselhead were fantastic,” and Karen said the duckling had now gone to a good new home.
