Largs in Euro twin town games

Marching through Andernos

'When can we do it again?' That was the verdict from the Largs team who took part in the recent Town Twinning Challenge Games weekend in Andernos-les-Bains, Largs" new twin town in France.

Competing against young people from Andernos and its other twins of Segorbe, Spain and Nussloch, Germany, the Largs Team did a fantastic job of representing the town. In fact, they were chosen to receive the trophy for sportsmanship and good humour presented by the Mayor of Andernos-les-Bains, Mr. Philippe Perusat.

Highlight of the games was the epic run by Largs" own Emma Baxter who helped the team to pick up the trophy for first in the relay race. As well as coming second in the Badminton competition, Largs also competed in football, handball, rough terrain cycle relay race and It"s a Knockout competition involving bronco riding, sumo wrestling and a pedal kart race.

The Largs team consisted of Largs Academy 6th year pupils - Amy Calderwood, Rebecca Muirhead, Kirsty Keenan, Adam Powis, Neil Menzies, Matthew Logue, Colette Atkins, Lauren Smith, Stephen Durnin, Richard Lightbody, Allister Hamilton, Alicia Green, Ryan Gilmour, Leigh Beirne, Kieran Howie, Ross Boswell, Lauren Pettigrew, Layla Burtt, Cara Garven, Emma Baxter and Karen McLaughlin.

The team was ably supported by students, Carolyn Jones, Kathryn Ord and Rhona Higgins. Supporting the team were Mrs. Heather Burns, Deputy Head Teacher and Alan Sturrock, Principal Teacher P.E. both from Largs Academy and Richard Wilkinson and Ken Jarrett from the Largs Town Twinning Association.
