ENOUGH IS ENOUGH ... "PARKING PROBLEM IS DIRE"

Nardini's Director John Fox has called on North Ayrshire Council to consult local businesses regarding improving car parking in the town.
The businessman believes the parking problems in Largs have been dire of late and told the "News" that a number of local resturants and bars in the town had pumped in money to improve their premises and needed a high quality parking infrastructure to mark that or customers will be turned off from returning.
Largs Community Council chairman Ian Murdoch pointed out that not enough members of the public are using the Brooksby Health Centre car parking space which is available all weekends with only a handful of cars using the ample facility.
He has called on the local authority to provide extensive signage around the town to indicate the free parking facility.
Have your say. .

Did John Fox not sell parking land previously available for his customers ? Ian Murdoch for once is correct in his comments....
Who would fund a multi-storey used for a third of the year ? NAC will not ! Maybe John Fox and the Largs Initiative ?
The front grass is one of the attractions of Largs and should not be considered for parking, just to please John Fox and others....there is a parking problem in all resorts if people do not come by public transport !

Well, I have sympathy - but not with pub owners who "claim" they are "entitled" to dump their bins along Bellman's Close and leave snotty messages on car windscreens - all aparently with total impunity! How about playing sithin the rules and then go bleating about how hard doe to you all are....Either that or, NAC Roads depatment/Strathclyde Police - how about explaining how we have so much garbage dumped in a public street with no questions asked......Yep - Largs is a parking nightmare and all businesses and resients need a solution. But let's clean up what we have and then move on - how about the 'Stute'? Lots of space there!

I was astonished to read the proposal to signpost the Brooksby car park for visitors to use "at weekends & bank holidays" oh aye they wont use it any other time. The people of Largs waited long enough for this excellent facility, I regularly use the medical centre and often have to park at the side near the gate despite holding a Blue Badge I don't know where the bizarre idea comes from about it being near empty!. Visitors already use Morrisons car park and even park outside peoples homes in surrounding streets and now we are supposed to hand over Our health centre parking to them Nae Chance!. Yes there should be signs- they should read 'For Brooksby users Only !'.

The problem of parking and congestion within Largs is regularly caused by its residents. Double parking on yellow-lines throughout the town by the same cars! In bus stop lanes, outside chemists' and fast food premises. Until the residents and business owners correct their improper practices don't blame the visitors.

Parking in Largs has always been woeful, but John Fox has a real cheek as he could have built a parking garage behind Nardini's instead of selling off the land to another soulless M&S block.
In an ideal world residents and shop-keepers should all walk to work, leaving the streets and carparks for visitors, but that isn't always practical given our tempramental weather, poor public transport and the necessity to transport goods and takings securely.
Another great missed opportunity was in not making the carpark off Gateside street into a 2/3 level multi-storey with a dedicated section for business users (while making Aitken St, Morris St and Fraser St one way to assist flow in and out of carpark and town centre.)
Another carpark could be developed out at the yacht haven off the A78 and this combined with a new station at the marina with a pendle-train running every 15mins between Largs and Farilie would ease town-centre congestion too.

comment 3399 is absolutely spot on...locals need to get their act together before blaming visitors to the town.....if the doors and aisles of woolies had been wide enough we would have had locals driving up and down them..in Largs double yellow lines, bus stops etc are abused every day by locals who wont walk the length of themselves never mind down the town...and yes there is an elderly population some of whom have disabled blue badges and who are entitled to park where others are not. What about the almost empty car park behind M and Co...oh yes we come from Largs and we are entitled to free parking everywhere...damn those pesky tourists!
