The Directors of West Kilbride Community Initiative Limited (WKCIL) were absolutely delighted this week when the Big Lottery announced their decision to award £870,560 towards the development of the former Barony Church into a cutting edge Craft Centre.
After more than a year of planning and detailed preparation by the Barony Project Team, the Lottery Committee recognised the quality of the scheme and the inspiration it would be both locally and nationally by approving one of the largest grants made in Scotland.
This award recognises the outstanding, imaginative development of the building and the enormous community benefit which the planned activities will be able to provide.
The application was prepared by Craft Development Manager, Maggie Broadley, who was praised for her dogged determination to succeed in achieving a grant from the Big Lottery.
Have your say. .

what a great decision that is ,to give the wk init a whopping £870,000 to help the total fund of £1.5 million for barony church rebuild ,great....but hold on a minute is there not at present some of the already existing craft shops lying empty due to no one wants them ? and lets see now yes im sure its going to be of great benefit to all in wk not to mention the thousands of visitors who will flock to peruse over the new building....heaven forbid dont let them any where near the glen or let them take a look at what great facilities are on offer to our youths because its a ruddy disgrace....wk would benefitr more by this cash being spent where it matters most not on a stupid craft centre that no one in the village is interested in apart from the directors of the wk initative, get real and listen to what the real people need and not what some pompous greedy t**ts want.

CLANGERS, why don't you follow their example and start up your OWN initiative instead of being an armchair critic? There's a whopping amount of money in the lottery coffers so if you feel so strongly about improving youth facilities perhaps you should start your own campaign?

great words jac .....you are evidently one of the brain washed tunnel visioned members of the clan lol,now lets see if an organisation calls themselves th wk initiative then does this mean that they only seek to gain funds and spend not only them but all their time heading towards one goal or can they maybe diversify and actually think of one or more cause that would maybe benefit more of the community than a stupid craft centre in a run down church hall which very few people will visit and the younger generation has no interest in??? nope i didnt think so .so perhaps you should think outside the box jac ...take a long look at the village and the amenties it has to offer to our upcoming future generation or perhaos if you are not originally from the village and have no context of what it used to be like and offer to a wide range of age groups then i would recomend you spend a good deal of time researching ....then look at what we have now...im sure spending the best part of £1.5 million on a centre for craft shops is a great idea jac ,so why not spend some of your time and ask not just the elderly folk of wk but a wider spectrum of age group and see what they think.by the way CLANGERS was a childrens programme that was based on space creatures that couldnt speak english but just whizzed about their little planet making rather strange noises....hmmm sounds familiar to another bunch of strange folk that toddle around with blinkers on.

Repeating what I've already said, Clangers, what are YOU doing to improve your community? Not in words - action.
