Roads official admits they were wrong

The traffic management scheme was labelled a 'disaster' at a meeting of local shopkeepers last week - but traffic officials now insist that Largs needs long stay car parks to cope with its problems.
At the Dunn Memorial Hall, around 100 angry business people aired their grievances over the scheme - implemented jointly by North Ayrshire Council, Transport Scotland and Amey - which they insisted was 'killing' trade and forcing visitors out of the town.
North Ayrshire Council's Transportation Manager, Jack McConnachie told those present at the meeting, organised by Largs Community Council chairman Ian Murdoch, that the local authority had intended to push forward with its original plans, but had been hindered "at every pillar and post by Amey and Transport Scotland".
Mr McConnachie expressed his exasperation over the scheme's outcome, and admitted: "I have my own pride and integrity and the whole process here has disappointed me entirely."
One of his first actions a day later was to re-open Tron Place to all traffic.
All the latest on the controversial traffic management in this week's Largs & Millport News.
Have your say. .

It's a farce.
Every single business on the main street and around it are suffering financially as a DIRECT result of this!
Something HAS to be done to rectify this. Where's the island for pedestrians crossing from the "Glens" (TV shop) area of the Main St, to the "Donald Low" side? This is a real hazzard for anyone in good health or of a younger age, but if you're older or slower at walking this is potentially a death trap...
Great work guys, really ****SARCASM****

jakey, if I want to cross from Glens to Donald Low, I have to use 2 pedestrian crossings, one across, then one back, that are hundreds of meters longer than where I need to go.
My health is a bit on the crap side just now and I dont walk so well, so this is a problem for me, not even thinking about all the older people in town and the like!

I would walk the walk rather than risk crossing in front of the famous roundabout.

I have the roundabout sussed. I drive round it. Just round it. A little bit over it at times, as it's not really a roundabout, just where a bloke from Amey dropped a can of paint. In fact, it was really unfinished. Amey were intending to build the new car park in the centre. Although, to be fair, I just use the car park up the side of M&Co. It's really good. You put your car there, buy a ticket and leave your car there. It's never busy, i guess because of the payment thing.
NAC have plans made up in their Crazy Ideas dept that have a giant multistory built on the seafront instead of the grass areas. Apparently it's encouraging visitors to spend their money in local shops instead of them having to look at a view or something less worthwhile.
Is it true that a Largs shopkeeper was found to be selling something tasteful? My mate told me, that once, he saw one of them smile.
