Bright lights for towering turbines
In terms of the visual impact, Fairlie Community Councillor John Riddell described the Environmental Statement for SSE Renewable's 600ft wind turbines at Hunterston, as among 'the worst that you could get' in terms of visual impact, and added that there would be bright lights on top of the turbines for the purposes of airplanes.
He also pointed out that a previous application for a wind farm, which was half the size, was unanimously rejected by North Ayrshire Council, and thrown out at a public enquiry. Professional advice received by the community council was received to state that there was nothing to stop SSE Renewables from re-applying at the end of their five year deadline, to carry on with the development, or another applicant to take over. Mr Riddell also stated that there was a lack of job opportunities locally through the project, and said if there had been more employment suggested for the site, it would have been more appealing.

Report commentThe way Planning applications seem to be happening at Hunterston that get passed despite public outrage screams backhanders and corruption with certain committee members? it just seems too convenient that these planning applications are being passed.

Report commentCoal yard was the same. Was only temporary. However, I do think that we need to invest in alternative energy and although I don't want them in my back yard either, they have to go somewhere. AND at least the parent company is Scottish.
What does annoy me though is the fact that Scotland and Wales are bearing the brunt of wind power. Try finding a wind farm in the South East of England. Check out BWEA site http://www.bwea.com/ukwed/google.asp and prepare yourself for the bout of spitting and swearing that will follow!!!

Report commentWhat must be really frustrating for Fairlie Community council is councillor Riddell being allowed to make his presentation at the planning meeting quite futiley because the councillors had already decided how they were going to vote. Even more annoying that it appears to be all Irvine area councillors who have dumped this on Fairlie village. And even more annoying is the SNP councillors who up till now have done a great job seem to have led the motion to approve the development. I'd be surprised if there a single SNP councillor left in North Ayrshire after May.It is a betrayal.
And all the more frustrating because there are many much better sites along the Ayrshire coast to put test turbines where wind flow is much smoother and where there are no residential areas. This seems to be only to satisy two commercial enterprises,SSE and Clydeport in their effort to degenerate North Coast into an industrial wasteland.

Report commentHere we go again the constant bleating by the whacky anti-ANYTHING in my back-yard brigade from Fairlie makes me puke, honestly get a life. First point the HUGE BRIGHT LIGHT is actually a SMALL red neon light the same as you would see on any other pylon on any other part of the world so its highly unlikely to keep you awake. Even more incredible than its minuscule size there is is no noise from this light.
Second and final point, these wind turbines on my front door step are a necessary part of Scotland's future economy in the renewable sector. Any balloon that tells you they are pointless, inefficient and uneconomical to run is deluded or misinformed. Take a look at Whitelees wind farm and the investment made by SSE, are you telling me they are spending BILLIONS in this sector whilst running a new underwater power line to England because its uneconomical? I ain't no accountant but smart enough to know that "there is money in them there gales". So lets just all put-up and shut up and stop being so selfish, think of your future your grand children's future as Nuclear or Coal is neither economical, sustainable, efficient or safe.
One final point, I hardly think the area is going to be further blighted by these turbines when you look at the coal-port, the coal yard and the monstrosity that carries it for miles to the railway depo, oh and let us not forget Hunterston A&B..All the aforementioned areas are a blight on the landscape of the peninsula and should be removed as a matter of urgency to allow room for a super efficient wind farm.

Report commentMr Ried, (reid?)
Are you stocking up on your candles?
the future technologies are becoming more efficient and safe...and are on the way
what is a super efficient wind farm? does it create its own wind or is it the hot air from you?

Report commentGood God; "long term" it is evident you are deranged and senile old fool with no valid argument or point and a fully paid up member of the aforementioned "blue rinse brigade". I assume your above ramblings have been concocted after a rancid cocktail of drink and drugs (I presume the latter)as it makes no sense whatsoever and therefore I shall treat it with the ridicule and contempt of which it richly deserves.
The fact you managed to spell "technologies" I can only assume you are still able to copy and paste from "Oxford Concise" (on-line) but sadly you dejectedly deficient in the most basic of administrative skills ie getting your point across with any valid reasoning whatsoever.
As my dear old mother once cried "there's a want about that boy"; I shall reluctantly refrain from any further gratuitous disparagement about your character or inane comments.

Report commentWhat a laugh you are, shout hardest and you will be right?
So bitter you are to older generation, folk who take drugs and use online dictionaries....how can your "backed up" arguments be treated as factual
Tell us all what the lifespan of wind farms and tidal/wave power and how much it will cost to link up to grid?
Do you want some candles? I have only used 36 so far!
