The Highlanders

The annual Burns Supper will take place on Friday 27 January in the Community Centre. The piping in of the haggis will be at 7.30 so make sure to get there early. This is a ticket only event as it is normally a sell-out. Tickets costing £15 are available from committee members,www.thehighlanders.net or by phoning Iona on 520390. The Highlanders` Burns Supper is always different from the norm and this year `s event should be no exception so come along and enjoy an evening of poetry and song, fun and laughter, good food and convivial company as we pay tribute to our national bard

Gala

The Skelmorlie Gala Committee has had a fantastic few years organising the gala day. On their facebook page, the Gala committee said: "We would like to thank everyone who has offered help and support over the last few years. It is greatly appreciated by all of us.The committee has now agreed that its time to hand over to some new volunteers, who can hopefully continue this annual community event. There is a series of intriguing old photos of the village which have appeared on www.facebook.com/groups/oldskelmorlie/ including some photos of the old Skelmorlie Hydro Hotel, including the lift which used to pick up from the car park in the Main Street. Pictures include the Wemyss Bay Hotel dating back to 1893, and an old etching showing pre railway Wemyss Bay with Kelly House in background. All round, there is a collection of 1,100 old pictures of buildings, people and views in and around Skelmorlie & Wemyss Bay in Scotland. A select few of Largs, Inverkip, Gourock & Greenock have also been included.

Crime

A 41 year man arrested and held custody on 2 January for alleged threatening behaviour, Innes Park Road, Skelmorlie, police have reported.
