Following the recent Fire and Rescue sponsored Everest climb of the Skelmorlie fire tower, a total of £10,292.70 was raised for Ardgowan Hospice. There was also a Mount Everest quiz night with Skelmorlie Skanks, and other fundraisers including Valentine Night, dress down day at Royal Bank of Scotland mortgage centre, and bottle stalls. Thanks to Greenock nurses at Larkhall Unit for fundraising too towards the excellent total.

Fireman Lloyd Baillie organised the charity climb at Skelmorlie Fire Station to raise proceeds for Ardgowan Hospice, after his sister Christine McAnespie was diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Scaling the heights, the local firefighters were able to complete the brave 8848m ascent using ladders climbing up the fire brigade tower.

On the day, there was home-made baking, raffles, bottle stalls, bouncy castle, face-painting and activities to entertain the children.

Sponsor sheets were also distributed around the town in the pub and local shops.

Lloyd said he would like to thank Largs and Gourock crews who also came along to help, and everyone who helped support the great fundraiser which will be remembered in Skelmorlie for a long time to come.
