Sport enthusiasts in Skelmorlie are poised to benefit as ambitious plans for a new multi-use games area in the village 
Skelmorlie Community Sports Club are delighted to announce that after a considerable period of preparation, the construction of an all-weather floodlit sports facility for the village, is due to commence week beginning 23rd October 2017.
The facility will be available for use by the school and the Skelmorlie community. The surface will be suitable for football, hockey and tennis as well as for other activities.
North Ayrshire Council's Cabinet had agreed to Skelmorlie Community Sports Club's proposal to secure a long lease of the grounds adjacent to Skelmorlie Primary School.
The lease will allow the club to move forward with its plans to provide all-weather sporting facilities for young people in the area.
Local residents identified the need for greater facilities in Skelmorlie and the sports club has worked extensively with funders to implement its business plan in order to construct a multi-use games area to enhance facilities for sport and physical activities within the village.
As a registered charity, the community sports club has raised just over £215,000 to take forward this project.
A long-term lease of grounds in Innes Park Road, adjacent to Skelmorlie Primary School, was agreed with North Ayrshire Council under terms of the community asset transfer arrangements.
Councillor Louise McPhater, Cabinet member for Communities, said: "This allow local communities the chance to develop exciting new opportunities which will have a positive effect on their area.
"Skelmorlie Community Sports Club has become a real focal point for sporting endeavour in the village and are well placed to push forward with their plans."
