A warning has gone out about a flood hazard on the coast road between Largs and Skelmorlie which is an accident ‘waiting to happen’.

A Skelmorlie man has said that he is fed up complaining on road authorities to fix a broken culvert which continues to flood the A78, and is seeking immediate action.

Barry Van Der Boer, Shore road, informed the ‘News’ that he believed it was a safety concern, and needs to be dealt with, after he had been campaigning to authorities for a year to resolve the problem, but so far, nothing has been done. This week, Barry has contacted his MSP Kenneth Gibson, in a bid to bring matters forward.

The final straw for Barry came last Wednesday when he saw roadsmen putting up signs, and he spoke to them, thinking that at long last that the matter was being addressed, only to find out that they were present to deal with install some new bricking at the side of the road.

Mr Gibson said: “Clearly the way to resolve this for both NAC and Transport Scotland, for which Transerv maintains the road to talk to each other. Inaction and buck passing do not represent a solution and I have contacted both organisations to secure a resolution to this important issue, given the potential hazards to motorists on this busy stretch of the A78.” Barry Van Der Boer said: “The culvert collapsed in on itself around a year ago, and the water fills up and comes out the drains at Strathclyde House and crossed the road. It continues to spill across the road, and when the winter comes, it freezes over."
