YOU voted to see the Big G on Glasgow Green - and now here it is.

The world-famous Commonwealth Games structure, designed and built by artist Jason Paterson, was installed in the park yesterday.

It took a team from first thing in the morning until late last night to make sure all 18 sections of the sculpture were safely in place.

And the installation failed to go smoothly as the truck transporting the Big G from Highland Colour Coaters in Cumbernauld broke down.

Jason said: “It’s been a long day but it’s looking pretty good now. “

Frank McAveety, Leader of Glasgow City Council, said: “It’s great to see Glasgow’s Big G back in the city.

“It was a memorable sight in 2014 and to see it taking shape again is fantastic.

“Glasgow Green is a prime location for the Big G to be permanently placed and I’m sure the people of Glasgow will be delighted to see the return of what is very much an iconic symbol of our success in hosting the best ever Commonwealth Games.”
