Supermarket chain Co-op has come under fire from customers after stocking up on Christmas selection boxes in September - more than three months before the big day.

Reddit user ShetlandJames took an image of a display in his local shop in Stockbridge, Edinburgh. Posting it onto the site, he wrote: “Stockbridge Co-Op can get tae f**k.”

The post quickly gained attention as dozens of other users hit out at the high street for thrusting Christmas goods upon them months beforehand.

One user said: “FFS we’ve no even had Halloween yet and that is a much better event than Christmas.”

Glasgow Times:

Another added: “It p****s me off every year how little we celebrate Halloween. It’s the only fun holiday and we literally f*****g invented it!”

The post comes just two weeks after the Evening Times reported how high street greeting card favourite the Card Factory ignited a fierce debate after filling its stores with Christmas goods - almost 18 weeks before the big day.

Twitter users discussed the issue throughout the day on social media sites after it was also brought up on ITV’s GMB Today programme.

The issue came to light after social media users flooded sites with card stores across the UK filled with cards, gift bags, and various wrapping items.
