FROM October 15 you will no longer be able to use round pound coins to make purchases in shops and vending machines as their legal tender status is set to expire.
The 'phase out' has been active since the 12-sided edition launched in March, but Scots are running out of time to use them or lose out.
In August, there were indications that the deadline could be extended as it emerged retailers were wrongly withdrawing the new coins and handing the old versions back to customers.
Cashiers and shopkeepers are no longer allowed to hand out old pound coins in change and after October 15, they won't accept them or hand them out due to their lack of legal tender status.
The new £1 coin was launched as part of the Royal Mint's efforts to cut back on counterfeits - in January, it was reported there were as many as 50 million fake round pound coins in circulation.
