Open Days

Inverkip Community Hub opened its doors to visitors on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd January. There were plenty of visitors who enjoyed tea and biscuits and a tour of the facilities. There was a chance to leave comments on what some would like to see at the centre.

There are quite a few activities already up and running with many forms of keep fit already up and running. Children have not been forgotten with their own yoga classes organised by Enterprise Childcare.

The LJ Dance Troupe has already started using the Hall and were very pleased with the facilities.

One thing that I myself commented on was the fact that you have to walk round Sainsbury’s and cross the car park there to access a pavement to the “Hub”

Inverkip Guild

In February the Guild will have a talk by Owen Quinn entitled “Walking to Santiago De Compostela”

Silent Auction

On 21st February Inverkip Guild and the Woman’s Institute are hosting a Silent Auction. Tickets will be available for this shortly.

Well Done

Inverkip Primary’s junior choir took first place at the Inverclyde Music Festival.

Community Council

In the recent published minutes of the community council the subject of parking at Wemyss Bay Primary School was discussed. The school bus companies had complained about the parking on the Main Road at the school. There has been a suggestion that will be put to the Parents Association and the Head Teacher regarding upgrading the path from the Community Centre car park that leads to the Primary School via back entrance.

Road Signage

The fact that there is no signage on the A78 at the slip road at the Brueacre junction indicating the Hill Farm Estate has caused problems for motorists unfamiliar with the area; this will be looked into by the Community Council.

School Bus Question

The subject of the free school bus for children living in the Hill Farm Estate was raised at the Community council meeting. It was suggested that now the house building was finished it was now safe for children to walk to school using the railway bridge to access Station Road. However it was mentioned that children using the station lift alight onto the station platform. Although there is access to stairs the children then have to cross onto a narrow pavement then cross one road exit and cross the road once again at the school.

Inverclyde Council have decided there will be no change in school transport arrangements which will allow some pupils to travel free despite living closer to the school than the current limits.

Skelmorlie, Wemyss Bay and Inverkip fellowship

The fellowship is hosting a meeting on Thursday 16 February in Skelmorlie Church hall at 2.30pm. The talk will be by Cameron Melville on “Press Talk”

WEA

The meeting in Skelmorlie Community Centre at 10am will have a talk by Bob Webster entitled “As others see us.”

Inverkip Guild

The Guild hosted a Scottish Night on January 24. Entertainment was provided by the “Soggy Bunnets” Ian, David, Judy and Katriona played and sang with members joining in. There was a recitation of a poem by Burns and a Scottish Supper was served.

It was mentioned that there are only 8 Guilds left in the area and questions were asked regarding when members felt was a good time to meet. Afternoon or evening, this will be discussed by members.

Notice that any one wishing to contribute items to the Silent Auction being held on 21 February can either take them to the next meeting on 7 February or on the afternoon of the event. Tickets £2 will be available soon.
